One Week to Go!!!

I picked up my showcases and my first 2 weeks worth of orders today. I'd take more pictures, but my store is still full of construction equipment so it would not look much different than the previous one. We finished laying the laminate wood floor and they are doing the baseboards tonight. I started putting the shelving brackets up, but forgot to bring a level and I fear that they may be a little crooked. At least I did not start in a place that would be seen first, so I have time to correct it.

I had already picked up my gridwall locally last weekend (shipping is ridiculous). Had to go with chrome. Looks good. however the shelves did not come in chrome, just balck or white so I went with white to keep everything bright. My shelving order came in yesterday, but I have not had a chance to open everything up yet. I also received my Comtrac software. I figured I may as well start out state of the art. Now I just have to figure it out. The new store computer comes tomorrow. Weeee!

First Invoice!

Well, it is official now. My first stuff is arriving
today from Diamond. I wasn't really ready. I went on to check the order increase stuff from Marvel, and there was the invoice. Not big and just trades and stuff, but still really cool. Now the money really begins to start flowing out.

I haven't quite figured out how to get the pictures up in an organized manner, so here they are as a lump and I will comment at the bottom.

This is the front of the store. The front door is just off camera to the left. The counter is going to go in front of the window on the right. Here is the first appearance of Katie and Declan on the internet.

This is the back of the store. In the notch will be bookshelves for trades and peg hooks for toys. The door is to the bathroom. No backroom. Sainted wife Sandi and Katie once again.

This is going to be the new book wall. It continues for another 12 feet to the left.

We are doing the floor tonight, so it will looking better soon.

I'm Back

Sorry for not posting in so long. I've had a lot going on. Finally left my job at the end of July, had friends in for a week and then went on our last vacation for a very long time. Now it is time to get down to business.

Back to the store. I did sign the lease for the oddly shaped store. It is affordable, visible from the street, and a really funky shape. Not you usual rectangular store. It is half painted. I will take some pictures tomorrow before I finish. The nail place next door had all of there stuff in it for the longest time, so all you would have seen were shrink wrapped chairs and boxes. No too exciting. Now you will see half painted walls and construction equipment. Ooooh I can feel your anticipation.

I may be renaming the blog because Dynamic Duo is no longer the name. It never really fit once Dan let me know that he would be able to help, but would not be going in with me. Granted, I could lose some weight, but I am not quite a "Duo". I came to an arrangement with a local dealer and I will be running his newest store - New Dimension Comics - McMurray. It is really a great situation for me because I get to run a Comic Book Store and avoid many of the new guy mistakes that put new businesses under so quickly. So basically I will have guidance, but still get to make the decisions and make it the way I want it. Pretty cool.

Now I just have to find the shelving I want. I was going to order it online, but the shipping was just about the same as the cost of the materials. Yikes!

One midly humorous note for me regarding the Civil War delays. Where most retailers are bemoaning the delay, I am happy because no I can carry the books that have been delayed. It was pointed out to me that it would be silly to open in September and have the August books. Most people who wanted them will already have them and I would be starting with stuff I couldn't sell.

Oh, did I mention this yet? My first day open will be Thursday, Sept 7. That is the day the first books come out in Sept. I was going to open Sept 1, but that was right before a holiday weekend
