Getting There

Well things are really starting to move along in regards to my store. I am down to 2 possible storefronts. One is slightly larger (1400 sq.ft vs 1150 sq.ft), but is about $700 more. The larger one has better visibility and my name will be on the sign at the entrance. The other problem with the smaller one is that there is a tenant currently in it that they have to evict and I may not actually be able to see inside of it until sometime in August. With an opening scheduled for the 2nd Friday in Sept., this is a concern. It is currently a photo studio and has walls up, so I can not see the condition of the place (however, the leasing agent would love for me to sign the lease sight unseen).

Every sign is pointing to the larger space, but 50% more in rent scares me. $700 is a lot of comic books, especially starting out. I really want to make a decision soon, so I can have an address and get the bank accounts and loan and Diamond account and everything else associated with opening the store.

Anybody have any advice?

All Start Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder

I went to my not so local store (45 minutes away on a Saturday afternoon) to get a copy of Diamond Previews so I can make my first order, yikes! and I picked up All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder #3 and 4 that I some how missed ordering. While his art is very nice, I am a little tired of Jim Lee’s obsession with the splash page. It is apparent that he has not come far from his Image roots.

Case in point: #3 22 pages of story, 11 splash pages, including 2 double page spreads. OK, it introduced the Black Canary, kind of, but that was it as far as story.

#4 22 pages of story. Only 8 splash pages, but also has 3 pages with two large images. And 6 of the splash pages were joined together to show the Batcave. Cool effect, but over 1/4th of the book was one image.

I can’t imagine what Jim Shooter (of the 9 panels per page rule) thinks of this.

All that being said, I am enjoying the story. We just don’t have much of one yet for our 12 bucks.
