My First Reviews

My First Reviews

I get my comics shipped monthly.  Part of my reason for wanting to open my own store is that the “good” local store is about 45 minutes away and I generally have to want something specific in order to go.  I also realized that buying at retail and then selling at conventions and online for retail or less was not going to get me anywhere.  So I started ordering online for a discount.  The bad things are that I have to order 2 months in advance, do not always remember to order #2 of a series, cannot do impulse buys and get them once a month.

So, that is why I have just read some books that you probably have already read.  But here goes:

Prelude to Infinite Crisis
I don’t know why I just got this.  It looks like it should have come out many months ago.  Kind of interesting since I didn’t get all of the books it covers, but it jumps around wayyy too much to really be able to see what is going on.  And it is mostly old news by now.  Glad I paid ½ price for it.

Infinite Crisis 3
Sweet.  Good story.  Definitely makes you want to grab the next issue, like a good book should.  I don’t want to give anything away, so I won’t say more, but pick this one up.

Son of M 1
Glad that I did not order #2, or did I?  Not much of a story.  Setting things up, but I really do not care.  Quicksilver lost his powers and we are supposed to feel bad for him.  Spider-Man lost his wife and son and we are supposed to feel bad for him.  I really do not think that Whiny Spider-Man was the direction that the character needed to go.

Ultimate Iron Man 5
I thought this was a mini-series.  Cliffhanger ending leading into another series?  Tony finally gets into the armor and gets blown up.  Then see you next year?  It makes me mad enough not to want to read more.  The story was interesting, but not enough to need to keep being lead along.

Well, that was fun.  Lots more to read and I’ll let you know what I thought.

Getting Ready to GetSerious

Getting Ready to Get Serious

Sorry for not posting more regularly.  With the holidays just about done, I will be settling down and getting serious about my new business venture.  My goal is to have my website and internet store fully up and running by mid January.  As I am pulling books out of the boxes to put up for sale, I will throw out random reviews as well as comments on recent books.

I watch a 4 year old and a 1 year old during the day and work at night, so my reading time is a little limited.  I have to get myself in the mindset of the business coming first and really buckle down to make this work.

I will let you know how it is going.

Maybe I can even convince Dan to post something in the meantime.

Toy Show Wrap Up

It was a great weekend all the way around. Paid for the tables, sign, & state registration fee for the company. Sold all of my quarter books to another dealer, so that albatross is off my neck. I sold a lot of new books as well.

Quite a few people were from my neck of the woods and mentioned that they would like to have a store down here. Opening up with people needing me is great. Now I just need to find a spot.

The big local dealer asked about my sign and I mentioned I was hoping to open a store far south of him and he gave me his personal e-mail, cell number and offered any assistance I needed. That gives me a big boost going forward. Thanks, Todd. Now I know that it will be more of a community than cutthroat.

I will get stuff on the website and on the eBay store this week.

Toy Show Day One is a Success

Well, I covered the cost of the tables and the new sign on day one, so day two will be all profit. Time to open a bank account for the business. Whoo hoo. I'm actually getting somewhere. This weeek I set up the business as an LLC, opened my eBay store and website. Look out world of comic book retailing here I come.

Here's a picture of me at the show.

Toy Show Part III

I'm doing my best to get ready for the show this weekend. I picked up my big Dynamic Duo Comics sign that will sit on the top shelf of my display rack. I'll get a picture of it tomorrow.

On the legal front, I registered my business with the State of PA, opended my ebay Store (DD Comics, Dynamic Duo was taken, rats) and reserved www.dynamicduocomics.com. Quite a productive day. Now I just have to get some content on the website and some merchandise in the eBay store. I am also going to create a flyer to give away at the show directing them to the site.

Good thing I still have a day and a half to go.
